Venues confirmed for next two Schools Championships - 28th Nov 2005
The English Schools Team Championships will be staged in the North of England and in the Midlands over the next two years.
Clitheroe Golf Club in Lancashire will generously host the one-day event in August 2006, while Coventry Hearsall Golf Club has graciously agreed to be the venue in 2007.
Both are long-established clubs, Clitheroe having been formed in 1891. Its 6,323-yard parkland course was designed by James Braid in 1932 is situated in the heart of the Ribble Valley with views on all sides, particularly Stonyhurst College and the famous Pendle Hill. It regularly hosts county matches and was the venue for the English County Champions Tournament in 1991 by Tony Allen from Warwickshire.
The Coventry Hearsall club is just three years younger having celebrated its centenary in 1994. But this will be the first occasion it has hosted an event under the auspices of the English Golf Union. The 6,005 yard, par 70 course over gently rolling land, presents a good test with fairways that are divided by some impressive stands of trees, medium to small sized greens, and excellent bunkering.
This year’s English Schools Team Championship was staged at John O’Gaunt Golf Club in Bedfordshire and was won by Sandown High School from Hampshire.
The format of the English Schools Team Championships is 18-hole Stableford for three-person teams off handicap, the best two cards to count
