CLUBS BATTLE FOR TOP PRIZE - 21st Sep 2004
Golf clubs from the length and breadth of Scotland will battle it out this weekend (Sunday 26 September) in the Scottish Club Championship.
Teams from as far a field as Moray and Dumfries & Galloway will descend on Erskine Golf Club, Renfrewshire, in a bid to win the prestigious crown.
The event is a culmination of a series of regional qualifying heats held throughout the golf season.
Alongside the honour of being named Scottish Club Champions, the eventual winner will also go forward to represent Scotland in the European Club Cup at Glyfada Golf Club in Athens, Greece in October.
Defending champions Dumfries & Galloway have made it through to the final once again this year. They would become only the second club since the event's inauguration in 1985 to win back to back titles.
Two members from last year's victorious Dumfries & Galloway side will once again line up to compete for the crown. Barry Scott and John Power will be joined by new team member Clark Riddick.
Meanwhile Dollar Golf Club will be looking to Scottish Boys internationalist Scott Borrowman to steer their side to a maiden victory.
Open to every golf club in the country, the Scottish Club Championship is one of the biggest club events on the amateur golf calendar with competitors playing in one of the sixteen area finals held between May and August.
The format for the final at Erskine will see all three players from each team playing 36 holes of stroke play, with the best two scores from each round added together to give the team's aggregate.
