DOUBLE BOYS CHAMP HENRY HEADS TO SPAIN WITH SCOTLAND SENIOR SQUAD - 15th Mar 2005
Scottish Boys Match and Stroke Play Champion Scott Henry will head to Spain this week (Friday 18 March) with Scotland’s Senior Coaching Squad, in preparation for the season ahead.
Cardross ace Henry made history in 2004 by lifting the Scottish Boys Championship at Southerness by a record winning margin, then becoming only the third player to secure the Stroke Play crown in the same season.
Drafted into the Senior Squad for the winter coaching programme, the 18 year old has followed an intensive schedule set by National Coach Ian Rae.
Henry will use the Development Camp in Spain as valuable preparation before he begins his bid to become only the third player to successfully defend the Boys’ Match Play crown. He will head to Murcar just a week after returning from Spain.
The talented youngster impressed selectors last year, reaching the last 16 of the Scottish Amateur Championship, and securing a maximum of two points for the SGU amateur team against the SPGA side in the Bunkered Match Play Challenge. Henry’s main focus this year will be selection for the Scottish Men’s team.
He will travel to Spain this week with Scottish Amateur Champion George Murray (Earlsferry Thistle), Stroke Play Champion Richie Ramsay (Royal Aberdeen), Jonathan King (Glasgow), Andrew McArthur (Windyhill), Paul O’Hara (Colville Park) and Lloyd Saltman (Craigielaw).
The squad will spend five days at the Costa Ballena Club where they will follow an intensive programme of coaching and playing over the championship course. The trip gives them the opportunity to practice together in a climate conducive to good golf. It is a continuation of the Scottish Golf Union’s plans to ensure that Scottish elite squads are given the most thorough preparatory schedules available.
Accompanied by National Coach Ian Rae, the squad will receive coaching focusing on all aspects of their game. During the week, they will follow a set programme of events including warm up preparation, long and short game practice, and gym sessions.
