POLSON AIMS TO GO ONE BETTER IN JUNIOR TOUR - 15th Apr 2005
Beaten Scottish Boys Championship finalist Euan Polson will be looking to go one better this Sunday (17 April) as the SGU Junior Tour heads to Kilmarnock (Barassie) for event two of the season.
The 18-year old from Royal Dornoch enjoyed an excellent week at Murcar in reaching the final of the BP Scottish Boys Championship, only to lose the final to defending champion Scott Henry by a 6&5 margin.
Leading this season’s Junior Tour is British Boys Champions Jordan Findlay – a quarter finalist at Murcar – and he is joined at the top of the rankings by Barassie’s Robert McKnight who will be hoping that home course advantage can cement his place at the head of the field.
James White (Lundin) currently lies in third place and the Fife youngster will be aiming to build on his fine semi-final performance at the Scottish Boys. Peterhead’s Philip McLean is another player hopeful of moving up the Junior Rankings in Ayrshire, fresh from his confidence-building defeat of Daniel Torrance last week.
The SGU Junior Tour was launched last year, with a format designed to give Scotland’s leading young golfers the opportunity to play more competitive golf on challenging championship courses. The first event of the season was held at Kingsbarns, with two more events to follow at Cardrona and Irvine Bogside. This year’s Tour also incorporates the Scottish Boys Stroke Play Championship, Scottish Youths Championship and the Scottish U16s Championship in July.
The rankings are based upon a stroke average system against the CSS score, rewarding those players who perform consistently well over the course of the season.
