A warm welcome at Aigas Golf Course. - 1st Mar 2006

The Masheter family has owned Mains of Aigas farm since 1960.

The cottages were developed through the years to supplement the farm activities and the idea of building our own 9-hole golf course at Aigas was spawned in 1991.

It was thought that it could complement our already well-established holiday cottage business and make use of some poor agricultural land overlooking the farm.

Our friend and golf course designer Bill Mitchell PGA of Grantown on Spey had other ideas, however, and quickly dismissed the idea of constructing a course on steep terrain and opted for the more naturally undulating land on the valley floor which has proved perfect for the par 66 course.

The wet autumn of 1992 proved very difficult for golf course construction and we found ourselves turfing the greens in between snow showers.

The course opened for limited play in July 1993. Large greens and wide undulating fairways are a popular feature of the course and some of the beautiful scenery surrounding Aigas can be seen.

The course has matured well during the first 10 years of play and we strive to keep it well manicured at all times. We have added a number of water features and bunkers to the course and are always looking to make further improvements to enhance the course.

Aigas Golf Club was formed in 1994 and members enjoy a variety of competitions throughout the summer months.

We are particularly proud of our Junior Section which is well-nurtured by the club; they continue to compete well both home and away. Further details on season tickets and membership can be obtained from the Clubhouse - telephone 01463 782942.

Having a small club at Aigas enables visitors to enjoy a game at almost any time, although booking is advisable for play at weekends and for large groups.

We always aim to offer our holiday clients and golfing visitors a warm welcome and are happy to provide any information on golfing in the Highlands.
