SCOTTISH GOLF TOASTS WALKER CUP STAR - 25th Mar 2004

Scottish Golf will toast the achievements of some of the country’s top amateur stars at their annual dinner tomorrow (Friday 26 March) at the Macdonald Inchyra Hotel, near Falkirk.

Walker Cup star Stuart Wilson will receive the Scottish Golfer of the Year and Golf Ranking awards in recognition of his most successful career in the amateur ranks.

The awards are a culmination of a tremendous season for Forfar’s Wilson, which started in April with a win in the Lytham Trophy. He went on to win South East District Open, and narrowly missed out on the Scottish Amateur Championship title, losing to Graham Gordon in the final.

The big highlight of Wilson’s season came in September when he and fellow Scots David Inglis and Graham Gordon flew the Scottish flag in the GB&I Walker Cup team.

The historic victory over America at Ganton was even more resounding because it was the first time in the event’s eighty-two year history that a GB&I team has ever won the title three times in a row. In recognition of the superb achievement, Wilson will be presented with a framed print of Ganton Golf Club (the host venue of the 2003 event).

Guest speakers Emil Pacholek and Rod Woodward will also be appearing at the Scottish Golf Dinner.

Pacholek, a journalist, author and currently Managing Editor with publishers DC Thomson, is a highly regarded speaker on the after dinner circuit, whilst Rod Woodward, winner of the "Encore Comedian of the Year" Award was described by the late Bob Monkhouse as "the best of the new bunch".
