CAMPBELL MOVES UP TABLE WITH ONLY TWO EVENTS TO GO - 18th Aug 2004
Glenn Campbell surged up the Scottish Golf Union Order of Merit table after his win in the North East District Open Amateur Championship last weekend (14-15 August).
The Perthshire golfer, who won the title on a play off against Laurie Phillips (Cruden Bay), moved from eighth to fourth in the table - just 12 points behind Andrew McArthur (Windyhill) in third.
With many of the players in the Order of Merit top flight not in action at Royal Aberdeen, Campbell, who has just been named in the Scotland Home Internationals side, took advantage and moved himself within touching distance of the top three.
Jamie McLeary, who was not in action in the North East Open, still reigns supreme at the top on 620 points, with Scottish Amateur Champion George Murray in second on 476.25.
Leven ace McLeary also tops the Scottish Golf Ranking table with an average score against the CSS of -2.35, ahead of Andrew McArthur and Scottish Stroke Play Champion Richie Ramsay (Royal Aberdeen) in a tie for second on -2.00.
