Stay and play golf on the south Cornish coast. - 3rd Sep 2007

They are very good at getting awards at Carlyon Bay, on the south Cornish coast.

In 1997, the cliff top hostelry was voted hotel of the year by the AA.

High on the cliffs above the clean gold sands of Crinnis Beach, all of the holes on the 6597-yard, Championship parkland course run east to west and back again (and uphill and down a fair bit) parallel to this spectacular stretch of coastline.

The fairways stay in excellent condition all year, as the course has since it was laid down in 1925, and according to the Club Secretary: the greens are the best in Cornwall.

Certainly, the views from the course across St. Austell Bay are among the finest anywhere, particularly from the ninth green, where an approach shot remotely right will plummet over the cliff edge.

Set in 250 acres of landscaped gardens, the stylish but comfortable 80-room hotel also offers tennis, snooker indoor and outdoor heated pool, sauna, spa bath and solarium.
