FIELD FOR IFQ AT SAUJANA GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB, 6 & 7 April 2005 - 4th Apr 2005
Scott Barr, Kim Felton, Jyotinder Randhawa and Yoshinobu Tsudaka, the four qualifiers from the International Final Qualifying competition in Asia last year, are again in the field at Saujana Golf & Country Club for next week's IFQ on 6 and 7 April.
For Randhawa, who was making his third appearance in The Open, and Felton, qualifying was a thoroughly worthwhile exercise as both players went on to play 72 holes at Troon in July. Indian Randhawa, this year already with a second place in the Carlsberg Malaysian Open, tied for 27th with winnings of £29,000 while Felton, from Perth, Australia, won £18,750 for his share of 36th place. Now they will have to go through the same exercise in the field of 32 players who are hoping to gain one of the three places in this year's Open at St Andrews.
In 2005, IFQ competitions of 36 hole stroke play have already been played at Atlantic Beach, Cape Town, South Africa and Kingston Heath, Melbourne, Australia and have still to be played at Sunningdale, Berkshire, England and Canoe Brook, Summit, New Jersey, USA on Monday 27 June.
Regional Qualifying will be retained at 16 venues and Local Final Qualifying (LFQ) will take place at Ladybank, Leven Links, Lundin and Scotscraig on Saturday 9 & Sunday 10 July. 12 places will be available from LFQ.
The field for The Open remains at 156 with approximately 100 players being exempt.
