Renwick will carry English hopes in the Junior Open - 4th Jul 2006

Darren Renwick, an England under 16 International, will represent the EGU in The Junior Open at Heswall Golf Club on 17th - 19th July.

Renwick, 16, from Sussex has been capped at under 16 level for the past two years and enjoyed a successful 2005, winning the Scottish under 16 title and the Douglas Johns Trophy. He finished tied ninth in the McEvoy Trophy in April and is one of the six nominated players to contest the Nations Cup for England in next month’s English Boys Under 16 Stroke Play Championship for the McGregor Trophy over his home course at Worthing.

The Junior Open is run biennially by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews in the week of the Open Championship at a venue close to where the Open is being staged.

This year the field, aged under 16 at the start of the year, contains 97 players, boys and girls, from 60 different nations. They will play 36 holes, while those with a handicap of three or better will play 54.

After the contest, the players will watch one day of the Open at Hoylake.
