England through to the European boys semi-finals - 16th Jul 2007
England will meet the Netherlands today in the semi-finals of the European Boys Team Championships at Rold Skov Golf Club near Aalborg in Denmark.
England booked their place in the last four with a 4.5 - 2.5 victory over France in yesterday’s quarter finals.
The morning foursomes were shared 1-1, England’s win coming from Andrew Johnston and Jack Hiluta who had to go to the 23rd hole, in the longest match of the tournament, to defeat Romain Schneider and Edward Dubois.
By mid-afternoon the singles were so evenly poised the result could have gone either way. But the English lads gradually assumed control with Tommy Fleetwood, Johnston and Matt Haines emerging victorious while Hiluta secured a half.
In the other semi-final, Italy, 5-2 winners over Scotland, will face Denmark who beat Sweden 4.5 - 2.5.
