Seascale Golf Club is steeped in a lengthy and fascinating history and has earned a reputation for challenging golf, excellent condition and breathtaking scenery. Its position overlooking the Irish Sea, with the Isle of Man and Scotland usually visible in the distance provides a maritime panorama to the west with the Lake District mountains providing an impressive skyline when looking inland.
A striking combination of naturally sculptured mounds and rolling fairways provides a wonderful environment in which the imposing surrounds compete with exciting shot making demands for the golfers attention. As with many great championship golf courses the final stretch of holes is a real test. The 16th 473-yard par 4 is possibly the most difficult hole where even the longest of hitters may have to lay up. The 17th 344-yard par 4 has the most testing tee shot having to carry 160 yards up hill and over long rough to safety. Then on to the tight 18th 353 yard par 4. This may only be a drive and a wedge but with the out of bounds and the imposing clubhouse on the right this can be a finishing hole to ruin many a good score.
Probably the most exciting hole to play is the short par 3 10th only measuring 143 yards off the back tee may sound easy. But being surrounded by a winding stream, pot bunkers, rough and whin bushes can rattle the nerves of any level of player. Throughout the season you will be greeted with a course in superb condition. With greens fast and true some of the pin placements will only reward good positional play. Due to the durable, dry and sand-based land, even. in the depths of winter, play is still very good and the course very rarely closes.
Other facilities on hand include the lounge and bar, catering for every taste. A 300-yard uncovered driving range with practice chipping, bunker and putting areas. And a fully stocked professional shop with resident PGA Professional. Good accommodation is available locally, enabling Seascale to be an excellent choice to give your golf game a good work out and get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life.
