WGU DRIVER LIMIT FOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS - 26th Jan 2005
The Welsh Golfing Union have introduced a Condition of Competition limiting the “spring-like” effect of driving clubs from the 1st January 2005. The change will affect the following National Championships:
Welsh Open Youths, Welsh Seniors, Welsh Open Stroke Play, Welsh Boys, Victory Shield, Welsh Amateur, Welsh Boys Under 15 & Under 13, Welsh Team, Welsh Boys Inter Counties, Welsh Inter Counties and Welsh Junior Inter Club.
For most club competitions and recreational play there will continue to be no limit on the “spring-like” effect until 1st January 2008 when the new rule will be introduced.
Driving clubs (a club with a loft of 15 degrees or less) must not have a characteristic time greater than 257 microseconds when measured on pendulum testing apparatus approved by R&A Rules Limited - see also Appendix II, 5a of the Rules of Golf.
Penalty for Breach of Condition is Disqualification.
The R & A website (www.randa.org) shows a list of driving clubs that have been tested and found to be contrary to the Driving Club Condition of Competition.
