Introducing Denbighshire. - 17th Jan 2003

Denbighshire is home of one of the biggest events in the Welsh calendar - the Eisteddfod Musical Festival.
It's held in the small market town of Llangollen every July where up to 100,000 people flock to hear choirs, singers, folk groups and musicians from all over the world compete to be the best.

This unassuming market town with its' castle backdrop was where renowned tenor Placido Domingo gave his first professional performance and Pavarotti has also performed there.

In this area you'll also find the fairly traditional seaside resorts of Prestatyn and Rhyl, with their promenades, beaches and funfairs.

They much market themselves as fun places for all the family so there's plenty of activities on offer.

For those who don't have to keep youngsters amused, there's the famous Offa's Dyke Path which starts at Prestatyn and goes nearly 180 miles to Sedbury, near Chepstow in South Wales.

Originally built by Offa, King of Mercia from 757 to 796, it was designed as a boundary between Wales and England. In some places the dyke is up to 20 feet high and 60 feet wide - to keep the Welsh from getting over.

These days it's a popular route for walkers thanks to the footpath which was opened in the 1970s.

Denbighshire has eighth golf clubs to choose from.
