St. Mary's School Wantage
SITE & GROUNDS:
St. Mary's is situated in the small market town of Wantage, at the foot of the Berkshire Downs, in the heart of the South of England. Oxford is fifteen miles away and there is easy acces to London.
The School's traditional background is attractive to many parents - including a number who live overseas and whose children add to the diversity of our School.
The School itself is set in fifteen acres and features many attractive buildings. On site facilities include ten tennis courts, netball courts, an indoor heated swimming pool and a sports hall. The School has additional games fields for lacrosse, athletics and rounders.
Proximity to Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon and Bristol means that visits to theatres, opera, ballet, museums and exhibitions are a regular feature of life.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (Wire-less Laptop Computer Link):
The first, largest, and most expensive campus-wide wire-less laptop computer link system in any independent school was launched on Monday 27th. November, 2000, at St Mary's School, Wantage.
anytime, anywhere
The wire-less system now enables the girls to communicate with their tutors, central printers, the Internet and each other from any building at the school, or indeed the middle of the sports fields, and vice versa.
THE CHAPEL (A Christian Foundation):
St. Mary's School is an Anglican Foundation. Its founder, William Butler, had a vision of Christian ideals being expressed in the education of children. For over a hundred years the Wantage Sisters nurtured that ideal of love and care for the individual under God. This is still a vital part of our school life and is expressed in our worship.
This worship, while being open to the needs and experiences of the young, is nevertheless liturgical and sacramental, calling on two thousand years of Christian tradition.
THE CHAPEL:
is a beautiful building; the whole School meets there daily for morning prayers and on Sunday for a sung Eucharist.
There are two Confirmations each year and girls who wish to be confirmed are prepared by the Headmistress and myself.
"As the full time resident Chaplain, I am involved not only in worship and welfare but in all aspects of the everyday life of the school community. The Christian values of warmth, care and consideration affect the whole School."
