DURBERVILLE'S RESTAURANT

Durbervilles Restaurant at The Anvil Inn offers fine fresh food. The style is modern British with continental influence. A lite-bites and a la carte menu is available, with daily specials displayed on the blackboard. Meals may be eaten either in the bar, in the restaurant or outside.

Beers, traditional hand pulled ales, spirits and fine wines are all served in our relaxing bars where all are welcome.

THE ANVIL INN LOCATION

It is believed that the village of Pimperne derived its name from the Celtic words pimp prenn meaning five trees. Henry VIII granted the Manor of Pimperne to two of his wives, first Catherine Howard, then later to Catherine Parr. It is ironic that on both occassions the Manor was granted for life! Built in 1530 the Dower House, later to become the Old Parsonage, was re-fashioned around 200 years after.

Some of the original Tudor features remained, a window and a niche above the door. There was once a Queens Walk round the village at the time of Henry VIII and also a miz-maze one of only three, it is beleived, in Dorset sadly neither feature exists today.

HOW TO FIND US:

We are situated just 2 miles from Blandford Forum on the main Blandford to Salisbury road (A354). Easily found we are on the main road about 200 metres into the village of Pimperne on the right hand side if entering from the Salisbury direction or 1 mile from the Blandford roundabout on the left if coming from the Blandford Forum direction.
