The Belgrave Arms Hotel

"The whole area around Helmsdale is a sportsman's paradise, and an ideal base is The Belgrave Arms, a family run hotel offering comfortable accommodation, good food and a welcoming atmosphere."

Welcome to the Belgrave Arms Hotel in Helmsdale, Sutherland, owned and run by Callum and Kathleen Taylor.

The Belgrave Arms is a family run hotel, where you will be assured of a warm welcome and good food. Callum and Kathleen have been running it for 3 years, and it has a local reputation for good food and warm hospitality.

The building itself was built in 1819, and during the Second World War it was used as the officer's mess for military personnel stationed nearby, as all the pubs in Wick (to the North) were dry of alcohol!

THE GUEST ROOMS:

The Belgrave Arms Hotel has nine bedrooms, a mixture of en-suite and shared bathroom. All the En-suite rooms have both a bath and a shower, tea and coffee making facilities, colour television, clock radio and hairdrying facilities.

All the other rooms have tea and coffee making facilities and colour television. The room rates all include breakfast.

THE BARS:

We have two bars in the Hotel, the Public Bar and the Lounge Bar. On a winters night the public bar is the place to be, with the open coal fire and a good malt whisky in your hand. Visitors and locals are both equally welcome in the hotel bars.

THE RESTAURANT:

We are open all day for breakfasts, lunch, dinners and snacks. Our chef Iain is a local lad from the nearby village of Brora. We are able to cater for small private functions up to 50 people.

LOCATION:

Helmsdale is an ideal base for touring the north of Scotland, or stopping off en-route to the ferries for the Orkney Isles. Situated on the North East Coast of Sutherland at the mouth of the River Helmsdale, the whole area is an angler's paradise.

The river, one of the most prolific salmon rivers in Scotland, opens in January through until October. There are also many lochs with an abundance of trout, and sea fishing can also be arranged.

For alternative entertainments, you can try your luck panning for gold at the site of the Kildonan gold rush of 1868. There are also golf courses within easy reach of the hotel, including the world-renowned Dornoch Links.

By road the hotel is situated on the A9 road, the main road leading north to Wick, Thurso and John O' Groats, or South to Inverness. Helmsdale is some 70 miles north of Inverness and 37 miles south of Wick, both of which have airports. Helmsdale has a railway station, and by prior arrangement transport to the hotel from the station can be made available.
