If you are seeking somewhere to stay where all your needs will be catered for, whether you be young or old, then The Crown Hotel in Langholm can be your "Gateway to Satisfaction".

Every ruin in the whole area, every tower, every valley and every dale carries its own song or story. It is said that on a moonlight night, even today, the clash of steel upon steel can be heard ringing out across the peat bogs of Tarras Moss.

Langholm is widely known as the "Muckle Toon", a carry forward from the 18th century when this Gateway to Scotland was not only the largest town in the Borders but was also the most prosperous, making a good living off the active smuggling which existed at that time. It is a town of communal pride. A town where the residents welcome visitors and enjoy their company.

Langholm has not been over commercialised by tourism but an increasing number of tourists are visiting each year and discovering for themselves the facilities and attractions which abound in and around Eskdale and far from the madding crowd.

FACILITIES:

The Crown Hotel is one of the finest old coaching inns in the Borders and its 18th Century walls are stepped in history and tradition.

Its 10 rooms are all very comfortable furbished with all facilities including ensuite facility and television.

A delightful dining-room is available for those wishing to eat from the comprehensive menu but bar meals are also available.

Alongside the dining room is a cosy, well stocked Cocktail Bar and downstairs there is a pleasant Lounge Bar, traditionally decorated and heated by a log burner fire.

LOCATION:

When you take the A7 official route North, you little realise the pleasures which lie ahead of you. Pass through the "Gateway to Scotland" at Scotsdyke and you have taken your first step "out of this world" and into Landholm and Eskdale.

Langholm is the first town in Scotland and nestles quietly in the Esk Valley at the junction of three fine rivers. It is surrounded by beautiful hills crowned with crag, heather and bracken. These hills are alive with a wealth of wildlife, history and legend, and the constant sound of nature's own music echoes down through the glens.

Although close to England, Langholm lies amidst scenery unsurpassed in the Scottish landscape. The town is the ancient capital of the Debatable lands, the historic centre of old reviving country, and one of the mail stalwarts of support for Border traditions, legends and ballad.
