Moresby Hall

Moresby Hall is the oldest residence in the Copeland borough (West Cumbria) and enjoys a Grade I listing due to its historical and architectural importance.

English Heritage recently credited Moresby Hall as being one of the most important buildings in Cumbria, retaining many of its original features.

BED & BREAKFAST:

We have four luxurious en-suite bedrooms in Moresby Hall. Bed & Breakfast is also available in our two cottages subject to availability.

De Asby is our sumptuous Four Poster room which has a 7' x 7' bed and a hydromassage power shower & sauna enclosure. Absolute bliss after a busy day!

Each room has a trouser press, colour TV, iron, hairdryer, clock radio, beverages and foot spa (for those returning from a tiring day on the fells!)

Special rates for children (aged 8 years +) sharing parents room (family room available)

The charming reception rooms, huge beams, log fires and a magnificent 16th c staircase attest to the character of this family home. Jane’s love of cooking provides for imaginative meals, using the finest (predominately Cumbrian) produce. We are fully licensed and have a range of reasonably prices wines, beers and spirits. Moresby Hall enjoys a semi-rural location, convenient for North & Western lakes, fells, coast, cultural locations, theatre breaks, golf and tourist attractions. We accept all major debit / credit cards.

We also can cater for private functions and celebrations for guests residing with us.

We can provide group accommodation for 16 - 18 guests so that family, friends or colleagues can meet and have Moresby Hall to themselves for their occasion. Great for business meetings, or celebrations, we offer genuine hospitality and a level of attention sometimes missing from large or impersonal hotels. We can seat up to 24 guests for meals or offer a stunning buffet menu for up to 60 guests. We have Murder Mysteries, Ghost hunts and Games Nights (roulette, blackjack, pool, dominos and whist) making this a great venue for a group of friends to meet up. We can also offer guided mini-bus tours of The Lake District, with an experienced driver who can show you some wonderful locations.

COTTAGES:

Brighida Cottage & Rosmerta Cottage are now available for self catering holidays, please phone for availability.

A pair of self-contained cottages, converted from the original Moresby Hall farmhouse. Both are situated at the rear of Moresby Hall, in the oldest part of the property, thus retaining many original character features. Dating from 1250 approx. We take great pleasure in welcoming our guests, and maintain the properties personally to a high standard.

Brighida Cottage sleeps 4 - 6 persons + cot with 1 double room (en-suite shower, basin & toilet) and two further twin rooms. There is an additional bathroom (bath, basin & toilet) dining kitchen and pretty lounge with a quality 3 piece suite

Rosmerta Cottage sleeps 2 - 4 persons + cot with 1 double and 1 twin room. Due to the ancient pele tower, we do not recommend Rosmerta for anyone who may not manage to ascend the (short) spiral stone staircase. There is a bathroom (bath, over bath shower, basin & toilet) large dining kitchen and cosy lounge with beams, traditional furniture and quality 3 piece suite.

Both properties are spacious and attractive with co-ordinating décor throughout. All new bedroom pine furniture, carpets, curtains, bed linen, towels, kitchen equipment, utensils, pans & crockery. Other equipment includes – large fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, electric hob & oven, kettle, toaster, iron & board, electric hoover, colour TV, video, CD music centre, clock radio alarm, hairdryer. A washing machine is provided in both cottages.

A location plan and directions is attached. Further information, pictures and details of current events can be found on our web page – http://www.moresbyhall.co.uk/. Parking is within the large outer courtyard which was once the farmyard for Moresby Hall farm. Guests are very welcome to relax and enjoy our walled gardens at the front and side of Moresby Hall. This is a nice setting to sunbathe, Bar-B-Que or have evening drinks al fresco. Children may play on our large lawn or within the paddock.

All gas, electricity, bed linen, bath & hand towels, tea towels, and dishcloths. VAT is included. There is a supply of cleaning materials, kitchen & toilet paper, hand soap. We provide fresh flowers, home made cake, a bottle of wine, tablecloth, napkins, books & board games to make your cottage a home from home. Babysitting available on request.

There is also a free welcome grocery pack comprising tea, coffee, sugar, milk, orange juice, bread, eggs, butter, bacon, and sausages. A full English breakfast is served in Moresby Hall dining room, free of charge, on the first morning of your stay. We are happy to provision your full grocery list, packed away in the cottage for your arrival. Charge for this service is 10% of the cost of the grocery list eg £50 bill = £5 additional charge. Payment is required on arrival for any additional groceries requested.

Dinner is available by arrangement. Dine with us in Moresby Hall’s elegant dining room (see sample menus) or if you just want to relax we’ll provide dinner in your cottage. We offer a choice of freshly prepared meals, ready for you to pop in the oven. Quite handy when you just want to unpack and relax on arrival!

We provide plenty of tourist information and we are always available to assist whenever we can be of help. In accordance with legislation, the gas boilers are serviced regularly and a current landlord’s certificate available. All electrical items are tested and certified under the conditions for “portable electrical appliances”.

Short cottage breaks, usually a min of 3 nights, self-catering or bed & breakfast (breakfast in Moresby Hall) are sometimes available for late booking or low season.

Each cottage is thoroughly cleaned and linens / towels changed weekly for bookings of a fortnight’s or more duration. A mid week cleaning service is available on request.

Children are most welcome. We are pleased to advise on the suitability of our accommodation / grounds for your children.

Smoking is not permitted in the cottages or Moresby Hall due to the amount of timber and beams in the buildings. There is an inner courtyard (undercover) outside both cottages. Guests may smoke in this area or elsewhere in the grounds.
