The Farmers Inn
Welcome to the Farmers, a traditional Inn ideally situated in the peaceful village of Clarencefield Nr Dumfries in South West Scotland.
Perfect bed and breakfast accommodation in Dumfries and Galloway. As we are only 20 minutes away from the M74/M6 and easily accessible from the A75 and National Cycle Route 7, the Farmers is ideally placed for Wedding guests, Golfers, Birdwatchers, Fishermen and Tourists.
We are the nearest Establishment to the renowned wedding venue Comlongon Castle and only minutes away from Powfoot Championship Golf Course, Caerlaverock Castle & Nature Reserve and of course Dumfries.
So if you're looking for accommodation, good traditional food, real ales and a nice relaxed atmosphere come and visit us and enjoy your stay in Dumfries & Galloway.
At the Farmers we are pleased to offer you today's comforts in traditional surroundings. The original Inn was built as a coaching stop in the late 16 or early 1700's and was called the "Castle Inn" after Comlongon Castle. During its varied history it was even a Temperance Hotel. The Farmers as we know it today took shape in the early 80's and is largely on the site of the adjoining village shop but the old bar area around the fire is still very much in use today.
We still serve traditional cask ales from some of the country's finest brewers and have been included in the Camra Good Beer Guide since 1991. Since then we have served over 300 different beers from all over the country.
We offer a good selection of traditional meals as well as a variety of vegetarian dishes. Our traditional Sunday Roast Beef lunches are always popular and there are various other specials available at the weekends. Locally regarded as being of excellent value for money there will always be something on the menu to tempt you.
Like many traditional Inns all our meals are served in the bar, which can create a very lively atmosphere especially at weekends.
ACCOMMODATION:
Our Motel style bedrooms are in a self contained annexe built in 1996. Each room has its own "front door" which enables guests to come and go as they please without disturbing anybody. This is particularly useful for golfers, fishermen etc or guests returning late from a wedding at nearby Comlongon Castle or those of you brave enough to get up early on a chilly winters morning to see the spectacular dawn flight of the geese.
The modern rooms are well equipped and all have en-suite facilities. As you can see from our photo all the bedrooms are at ground floor level and one has a bathroom specially adapted for guests with mobility difficulties. All our bedrooms are non smoking and pets are not allowed in the rooms except for guide dogs.
Breakfast is served in our conservatory which is attached to the original building.
GOLF:
Dumfries and Galloway has over 30 golf courses to choose from- just phone or email us and we will do the rest. Discounted packages available to suit your requirements. Buggies are now available at several courses.
Powfoot Championship Course is only 5 minutes away. This testing course is a mixtureof links and parkland and is a favourite with our visitors. Designed by James Braid. it sits on the edge of the Solway and is a 'must' for any visiting party.
HOW TO FIND US:
Its very easy- from the M6 take the A75 for Stranraer, take the second turn off for Annan, then first right and follow signs for Comlongon Castle until you get to Clarencefield, it should take about 20 mins from the M6.
From Dumfries take the A75 to Carlisle and turn right onto the B724 about two miles outside the town and keep going for about 5 miles.
