Herrislea House Hotel

Herrislea House Hotel is a modern four-star hotel seven minutes drive from both Shetland's capital town, Lerwick and its ancient capital, Scalloway.

Situated in the middle of Shetland at the north-easterly end of the Tingwall Valley, the recently refurbished hotel offers a relaxing and friendly atmosphere in a pleasant, mainly agricultural area.

Accommodation comprises of thirteen individually designed spacious and comfortable en-suite rooms, all with tea and coffee making facilities, etc. There are also two self-contained, self-catering flats available.

You may dine in the excellent hotel restaurant or enjoy the more informal surroundings of our café bar, the Starboard Tack. We specialise in using our own and local produce, such as Shetland hill lamb, fresh caught fish, the very best of Shetland vegetables and even a selection of local fruit and fresh herbs.

The bar is well stocked with an exceptional range of the very finest malt whisky. Other facilities include a comfortable lounge, and a conference/private-function room.

We enjoy live music on a regular basis in the Starboard Tack with a mix of music from folk to jazz along with Shetland’s famous rock bands which can make an evening go with a real Shetland swing.

Tingwall valley itself is a tranquil spot with a golf course situated at either end. The nine hole Asta Golf Course, next to the picturesque Asta Loch and the eighteen hole Shetland Golf Club course at the north end of Dales Voe are only a few minutes away. Each provide a real challenge for any level of golfer.

Visitors are very welcome at both courses and green fees can be paid daily or for longer periods to suit your visit.

Within a few minutes walk from the hotel you can visit the Tingwall Agricultural Museum which is situated along a quiet back road where no doubt on the way a rare bird or two may be found in the small wooded corners. The building, once an old granary of the 18th century at Veensgarth farm, houses a fine collection of the farming implements and machinery of times gone by.

The wooded garden is a splendid spot for wild flowers, and bluebells in particular, are prolific. Stop and listen here for a warbler singing or the quite distinct call of the Shetland wren.

The 18 hole golf course at Dale is just over the hill from Herrislea House.
