Stafford House Bed & Breakfast
With some of the most spectacular views of the Dunbar coastline, this magnificent clifftop accommodation offers top quality bed and breakfast facilities for the discerning visitor.
Location:
Dunbar is a quiet picturesque seaside town approximately 26 miles to the east of Edinburgh which is only 50 minutes away by car and 20 minutes by train. Intercity trains to and from London King’s Cross stop at Dunbar. Edinburgh also has a busy international airport and there is a daily ferry service between Rosyth, on the north side of the Forth road bridge, and Zebrugge.
Stafford House, owned by Willa and Colin McWhannell, is close to the centre of Dunbar with off-street parking and overlooks the sea with spectacular coastal views of the Bass Rock, the May Isle, the Kingdom of Fife and Dunbar’s historic harbour entrance. The B&B offers the opportunity for a quiet and comfortable break with walks in the countryside or, for the more energetic, access to the many magnificent golf courses for which East Lothian is renowned.
Places to go and things to do:
Dunbar has two golf courses and is within easy reach of many other courses in East Lothian. With the sea on one side and the hills on the other, fishers and walkers can be also be rewardingly accommodated. Dunbar is the birthplace of John Muir, the famous conservationist, and, following the clifftop trail which you can access directly from Stafford House, you can walk to the John Muir Park where you can stroll among the trees and enjoy the beautifully wooded surroundings or enjoy the award winning beaches. Dunbar also offers a variety of pubs and restaurants where you can sample the locally brewed Belhaven beer followed by some fresh locally caught fish.
There are many places of interest in East Lothian. There are castles, galleries and houses to visit. The coastal town of North Berwick has the award winning Sea Bird Centre with live links to the Bass Rock. During the summer there are boat trips to the Bass where you can experience its lively and noisy gannet population. Inland at Pencaitland there is Glenkinchie Distillery with an interesting visitor centre. The Border area with it’s historic towns, abbeys and woollen mills is less than two hours away.
