Glencar House Hotel
Glencar House, circa 1670, is one of those grand "Old World Hotels", built by the Earl of Lansdowne, as a personal Hunting and Fishing Lodge.
Nestled in the foothills of Ireland's tallest mountain, Carrantouhill, Glencar sits in 13 acres of unspoiled primeval oak woods.
With a sylvan vista extending over yet more hectares of un-polluted wild natural woodlands, open bog and mountains, Glencar is indeed a special place of enchantment.
Known as "One of the Great Fishing Houses of Ireland", the dynamic waters of the Caragh River run close to its "back door" and all the way to both Lough and Ocean.
This stately old house is ringed by the MacGillicuddy Reeks, a range where you will find a wealth of flora and fauna: blackthorn, whitethorn, wild fuchsia hedgerows, climbing honeysuckle, as well as the prolific rhododendron, which is scattered all about this lovely valley, as if by God.
Also abundant in and around Glencar, are its famous lakes (loughs), streams and rivers bursting with trout and salmon.
Glencar House has been home to fisherman, walkers, special interest groups (up to 50) and to those on spiritual retreats.
The hotel offers full board and twenty en-suite bedrooms, all with clean, modern décor. Some guest comments include:
"Magicalthere is no greater discovery this side of Heaven"
"Blissful serenity, and is spiritually uplifting, a place to be at peace"
"Keep it as it issave it for posterity"
GOLF
Golfing enthusiasts will delight in a choice of five fabulous courses and several of Ireland's best links all within twenty-five minutes of the hotel.
